Cornish Rex breed: information

GENERAL FEATURES- “The cat that doesn’t shed”

One of the special things about the Cornish Rex breed is its short, plush and ultra soft wavy coat.
This coat arose from a natural mutation that ensures that only undercoat is formed. The Cornish Rex is known as “the cat that doesn’t shed”.
This makes this breed ideal for people with an allergy to cats (hair).

The Cornish Rex is an elegant, slim and muscular medium-sized cat (2 – 5 kg) on high legs with small oval feet; the body feels hard and sturdy, the tail is long and thin, tapering to a point.
The head is somewhat “egg-shaped” with a straight profile.
The eyes are medium sized and almond shaped.
The ears, placed high on the head, are large, broad at the base and open with a rounded tip.
The Cornish Rex is bred in all possible colors and patterns and originates from Cornwall, England.

CHARACTER

The Cornish Rex is an affectionate, intelligent and very people-oriented cat. They are active cats that like to run and play.
They are prima ballerina’s but often behave like sweet and funny little monkeys.

The Cornish is very curious and likes to get involved in everything that happens in the house. Most are not afraid of water. They find a dripping tap or sitting on the edge of the bath very interesting. There are even some who join us in the shower. They are intelligent and inventive cats: opening doors is usually not a problem.

Both females and males are usually good and caring parents for their active kittens.
To literally ‘keep their offspring short’, they often bite off the whiskers of their kittens, so that they do not wander too far from the nest.
A Cornish does not do well alone, it is very important to provide company, it does not have to be a breedmate because they are just as happy to play and sleep with a non wavy coated cat or even a dog!

CARE

The waves in the coat lie like a washboard on the back and tail. The silky soft coat requires little or no care, a single brushing with a baby brush or gentle rubbing with a chamois is sufficient.
It is important that the diet contains sufficient fats and vitamin B to keep the coat in good condition.
